It has emerged today that even though Bruce had moved on and remarried, he kindly helped his first wife throughout the toughest time of her life.

According to The Sun, he secretly nursed his-ex wife Penny Calvert through her battle with dementia.

The pair of them met back in the 50s when she was a dancer at the legendary Windmill Theatre and married in 1953.

The pair went on to become a double act and had three daughters.

However, the couple split in 1973.

In spite of their break-up, Bruce stood by his ex-wife when she was diagnosed with dementia years later.

According to his daughter Julie, he made regular trips to see Penny when she was moved to a care home.
