Some of the biggest Coronation Street stars are currently out on tour as part of âAn Audience with Coronation Street,â a live show hosted by Sharon Marshall.
The tour sees the stars talk about the time on the iconic soap, sharing big secrets and behind-the-scenes gossip.
On Saturday night (September 20), Jack P Shepherd joined fellow cast mates Patti Clare, Jane Danson, Jimmi Harkishin and William Roache at the Lowry Theatre in Salford.
Talking about hitting 25 years on the soap as David Platt this year, Jack then revealed that this was never the plan.
Back when David was a teenager, Corrie writers had actually decided that David was a villain. And, he needed to die.
Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd reveals Corrie bosses wanted to âkill offâ David Platt
Speaking at the Lowry, David Platt star Jack shared: âThey were going to kill me off because Iâd done bad things, and itâs like anything, each character goes through bad scenarios and if they keep doing bad things, they have to get rid of them, donât they? The soap gods get you.
âI found out at a writerâs meeting that theyâd just killed me off. Theyâd just decided to.â
He then explained that âtheyâd worked out Davidâs exit storyline and were going to kill him offâ during his teenage years.
âWhat changed their minds was that I did a scene where I blamed Gail about Richard Hillman, and I think the scene was typically written where David would lash out at his mum and storm upstairs, slam the door, like a usual teenage soap scene.
âI played it a little differently and I was just very matter of fact and was a bit more sincere with what he actually believed and thought. And thatâs when they went âoh maybe heâs alright and maybe there is a way back for his character. Maybe this ladâs quite good and weâll try and keep hold of him.â And, good job they did!
