Celebrity Bake Off fans divided over “disgusting” chocolate crumpets

Some were revolted, others found them life-changing

The Great Celebrity Bake Off viewers were hotly divided over one treat the contestants had to make in last night’s episode (March 26).

Celebs were tasked with baking chocolate crumpets and some fans couldn’t believe it, while others were more embracing.

Presenter Jeremy Paxman, comedian Joe Wilkinson, Corrie actress Sally Lindsay and Georgia ‘Toff’ Toffolo from Made in Chelsea were taking part in the competition to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.

As part of the technical challenge, judge Paul Hollywood revealed they would have to make chocolate crumpets.

The announcement kicked off a fierce debate on Twitter.

Some viewers were disgusted at the idea, with one simply writing, “Chocolate crumpets” alongside a sick face emoji and another commenting: “Eurgh god! Just as disgusting as ordinary ones!”

Another echoed that sentiment, tweeting the hashtag: “#wrongjustwrong.”

Others were more just shocked that they’re even a thing.

One viewer wrote on Twitter: “Chocolate crumpets? I’m sure Paul Hollywood just made that up!”

Someone else asserted confidently: “If you can’t buy them in Morrisons or Greggs, they don’t exist.”

A third suggested that Brits all over the country might have dropped their cups of tea in shock.
