Carol Kirkwood apologises for Sir David Attenborough blunder on BBC Breakfast

What would Sir David think?

Carol Kirkwood has apologised for an embarrassing blunder she made while presenting on BBC Breakfast this week.

The weather expert, 56, thanked one of her fans who corrected her on Twitter by pointing out a mistake she made on the show.

Carol got her TV legends mixed up when talking about the research vessel RRS Sir David Attenborough – the boat that was famously nearly called Boaty McBoatface after the Natural Environment Research Council called on the public to suggest names.

Instead of referring to the documentary-maker and undisputed national treasure with whom the boat shares its name, Carol accidentally referred to his late actor brother, Sir Richard Attenborough.

One viewer tweeted to BBC Breakfast’s Dan Walker: “Did Carol Kirkwood call Boaty McBoatface the Sir Richard Attenborough? Think Sir David won’t be chuffed!”

Another user wrote: “Okay, yes Carol Kirkwood did say Sir Richard Attenborough, not Sir David Attenborough. But she’s on live telly. So I thought I’d help out by stealth-correcting.”
